Bayani Adlawan, O'Sensei:
Founded the Kenjutsukan Karate Federation in the City of Los Angeles in the early 1960s. Under his leadership and guidance,The Federation became a very successful karate institution, expanding to a number of Karate Dojos located in the Los Angeles, and Orange county areas, Arizona, Washinton, Kansas, and Mexico.
Unfortunately his life was cut short in the summer of 1987 at the age of 50. One of O Sensei's dreams and last wishes was to help our karate students achieve a college education.
Since it's establishment the Adlawan scholarship program is proud to say it has supported many students in their quest for a proper education.
The Te-Kenjutsu-Kan Karate-Do Organization has awarded a scholarship each year in O'Sensei Adlawan's honor to a karate student that has completed his or her high school education. The recipients of these awards, in addition to being capable karatekas, must have completed their high school education with a successful academic record that qualified them for college.
A very big part of what we do comes from the heart and our concious is Renshi James Manson. He has guided and maintained our focus on the scholarship fund. That is why on June 4th, 2011 it was announced that the name of our scholarship fund would be changed to the Adlawan-Manson Scholarship Foundation. I am very honored and proud to call him my mentor and friend.
Over the years a number of our students who have received these scholarships have been successful at both junior and four year colleges.
